Srinagar: After missing the deadline to complete the construction work of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) and other girls’ hostel, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary Arun Kumar Mehta has ordered the Project Director Samagra Shiksha to complete the construction work by March and December 2022 respectively.
According to the official document available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the MoE in a review meeting with Jammu and Kashmir has said, “Project Director Samagra Shiksha will complete construction work of KGBVs and Girls Hostel Buildings by December 2022.”
“81 KGVB Schools by March 2022 and 49 Girls Hostel by December 2022,” it reads.
In 2021, KNO reported about the 60 percent of seats that were unfilled in Type-I girl residential schools Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs)—thus taking a toll on decline in enrollment and functioning of the department.
In the year, the Ministry of Education (MoE) for Government of India (GoI) has said the Jammu and Kashmir government has even failed to make nearly 86 Type-IV KGBVs posts functional.
“The Union Territory (UT) of Jammu and Kashmir has not been able to operationalize 86 KGBVs of Type IV and one KGBV of Type-I, that was sanctioned in 2010-l l,” it reads.
Besides, the GoI also said. “At least 2075 that consist of 50.9 percent of seats are lying vacant against the 6150 targeted enrollment in 88 functional KGBVs of Type I,” it reads.
The GoI also said that the Samagra Shiksha Scheme has been aligned with the recommendations of the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP 2020)—(KNO)
