Srinagar, Oct 10: Responding to accusations of violence made by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader Iltija Mufti against National Conference (NC) workers, MLA Bijbehara Dr Bashir Veeri on Thursday issued a strong statement, hinting at potential legal action against her.
Iltija Mufti had alleged that NC workers engaged in “hooliganism” and “vandalism” following the party’s victory in the recent assembly elections in Bijbehara, Kulgam and surrounding areas.
Speaking with the news agency, Dr Veeri expressed disappointment over Iltija’s remarks, defending his party members and condemning what he termed “unsubstantiated claims” of illegal activities.
“I have respect for Mehbooba Mufti who is like a sister to me. However, I must advise Iltija to cease these baseless and illegal accusations,” he said, urging her to avoid using “unparliamentary” language and “insulting” the people.
Dr Veeri said the National Conference has a long-standing legacy in Bijbehara and that the party has a huge presence in the area. “This has always been the seat of the National Conference. Your grandfather never won against my father,” he said, adding that the party restored its stronghold after 28 years.
He hinted at taking legal action against Iltija for her statements, saying, “Stop these acts. I am giving you a legal notice. I can explain to you through the law.”
The NC leader urged Iltija to refrain from making further allegations. “It would be in her best interest to quickly understand the situation,” he said
