Two-Week Inter-Disciplinary Research Workshop on “Advanced Analytical Instrumentation Tools & Techniques” inaugurated at GDC Baramulla

BARAMULLA, OCTOBER 22: A first of its kind, two-week Inter-Disciplinary Research Workshop on “Advanced Analytical Instrumentation Tools & Techniques” was inaugurated today at Govt. Degree College (GDC) Baramulla (Autonomous).

Organized by the Research Committee of the college, the workshop aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical skills in analytical research.

The program will run until 4th November 2024, featuring a series of hands-on sessions on advanced research tools and techniques and was attended by over 40 participants from various colleges and universities of the J&K.
Prof. Mohammad Shafi Lone, Principal of the college, presided over the inaugural session. In his address, he emphasized the value of such workshops in empowering students and researchers with contemporary skills necessary for academic and professional success.

The themes and objectives of the workshop were comprehensively outlined by Dr. Humaira Qadri, Dean Research. She emphasized the workshop’s focus on developing technical competence and promoting research innovation.

She stated that the workshop is significantly relevant in the age of Artificial Intelligence which is becoming a greater competition for the teacher.

Prof. Tariq Ahmad Chalkoo, Staff Secretary and Dean Skill Development, highlighted the significance of staying abreast of recent advancements in technology, especially in the age of ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and AI (Artificial Intelligence). He underscored the transformative impact of these technologies on modern pedagogies and encouraged participants to actively engage in the upcoming sessions.

Prof. Sadat Hassan Kar, Dean of Sciences, provided insights into the evolution of multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary sciences. He elaborated on how such approaches have become indispensable in addressing complex global challenges, further stressing the importance of collaborative research in scientific advancement.

Earlier, Dr. Syed Mutahar Aaqib, Coordinator IQAC and Member of the Research Committee, conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session. In his opening remarks, he provided an overview of the workshop’s relevance to current research demands. He highlighted the importance of a holistic approach to research that integrates traditional methodologies with advanced instrumentation techniques.

The inaugural function concluded with remarks from Dr. Abdul Roouf Bhat, Dean of Academic Affairs, who emphasized the importance of practical training in research. He expressed confidence that the workshop would serve as a valuable platform for developing participants’ skills and preparing them for future research challenges.

Following the inaugural session, the first technical session was conducted by the college’s Clinical Biochemistry Department Lab by Prof. Rukhsana Akhter, Dr. Irfan Maqbool, and Dr Mashooq Ahmad Dar (Postdoctoral fellow from Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology Polish Academy of Sciences Warsaw, Poland), focusing on basic diagnostic techniques like Blood Glucose and Kidney Function Tests.

The session involved practical demonstrations of blood sample collection, the application of reagents, and subsequent analysis, providing participants with a solid understanding of both the theoretical and practical aspects of these essential diagnostic tools.

Participants were guided through the accurate use of reagents and interpretation of results, highlighting the relevance of these techniques in both research and medical contexts.
