SRINAGAR, OCTOBER 31: The postgraduate Department of Medicine, Government Degree College (GMC) Srinagar today organized a CME on sleep disorders bringing together renowned experts to update healthcare professionals on the latest advances in sleep disorder diagnosis and management.
The CME was conducted under the guidance and patronage of Principal/ Dean GMC Srinagar, Prof. Dr Iffat Hassan with Prof. Dr Rakesh Koul, HOD Medicine GMC Srinagar as the organizing chairman and Dr Shabana Ashraf Assistant professor Department of Medicine (neurologist, sleep specialist) as the organizing secretary. Mohamad Ashraf Hakak, Administrator Associated Hospitals; Tahleela Asmat, Chief Accounts Officer and other officers were also present on the occasion.
The recent establishment of a state of art sleep lab at SMHS Hospital was highlighted during the CME. The lab is equipped with advanced facilities for sleep disorder diagnosis and treatment.
The scientific program included a keynote address by Prof. Dr Rakesh Kumar Koul on sleep disorders. The sessions included talks on introduction of Sleep medicine by Dr Shabana ( Assistant Professor medicine; neurologist; sleep specialist): sleep related breathing disorders by Prof. Muzaffar Maqbool (Prof Department of Medicine); Sleep related movements disorders by Dr Irfan yousuf (neurologist, Assistant Professor Department of Medicine); Drug induced sleep endoscopy by Dr lhsaan (Associate Professor Department of ENT); Parasomnias by Dr Irfan Shah ( neurologist, Assistant Professor Department of Medicine) and insomnia by Dr Maqsood Ahmad Dar (neurologist, Assistant Professor Department of Medicine).
Among the other faculty members of medicine, neurology, surgery, ENT, psychiatry, Head of the Department from various other disciplines were also present who shared their multi disciplinary view regarding sleep related disorders.

Prof Dr Bashir Ahmad Sanie, Prof Dr Khalid Mohuidin, Prof Dr Hina Bashir, Prof Dr Sabhiya Majid, Professor Dr Imran Sayeed, Professor Dr Gh Mohamad, Professor Dr Saleem Khan, Prof .Dr Manzoor Ahmad Latoo, Professor Dr Altaf Ahmad Kawoosa, Professor Dr Arshid Hussain, Prof. Dr Iqbal Saleem Mir, Prof Dr.Umar Farooq and Dr Javeed Naqashbandi (Aneasthesia)
Prof. Dr Iffat Hassan Principal /Dean GMC Srinagar and Dr Tasneem Shoukat MS SMHS Hospital emphasised the importance of sleep medicine in patient care.
The workshop aimed to enhance Healthcare professional’s knowledge and skills in sleep medicine promoting better patient care and outcomes.
