JAMMU, NOVEMBER 11: On the auspicious occasion of National Education Day, Department of Computer Applications, Government Degree College Marh has organised a six-day Maiden Basic Computer Literacy Programme for adopted students from Government Middle School, Dhateryal (6th to 8th class students).

The event started under the esteemed guidance of the Principal, Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul, and aimed at equipping young students with fundamental computer skills, fostering early digital literacy, and inspiring a future-ready generation. Prof. Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul emphasized the college’s commitment to rural outreach and holistic development in his address. He remarked, “Education is the solid foundation of a progressive society, and digital literacy is now an integral component of that foundation.

Through initiatives like the Basic Computer Literacy Programme, we aim to bridge the digital divide and provide rural students with the skills they need to succeed in a digital world.” Under the mentorship and expertise of Dr. Rahul Sharma, Head of the Department of Computer Applications at GDC Marh, students will receive hands-on training and guidance in foundational computer skills. The program offers an invaluable learning opportunity for underprivileged students by providing hands-on workshops that equip them with essential computer skills. The programme has meticulously designed sessions aimed to be engaging, interactive, and age-appropriate, ensuring that students could confidently grasp basic concepts.

Dr. Sharma highlighted the importance of early exposure to technology, noting, “It is essential to prepare students for a world where digital fluency is as important as traditional literacy. Through this programme, we are planting the seeds for a lifetime of digital learning and empowerment.”

The programme was tailored to introduce essential computer knowledge, enabling students to explore the digital world with confidence. Organized in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), this initiative aligns with the college’s mission to advance quality education and community outreach. Prof. Imtiaz Shahid, expressed optimism for future collaborations, saying, “Our goal is to create sustainable programs that evolve with the students’ needs. By monitoring feedback and outcomes, we aim to refine our approach and make a greater impact on the community.”

The Basic Computer Literacy Programme, marking National Education Day, stands as a testament to GDC Marh’s commitment to educational excellence and social responsibility and optimum use of infrastructure available in the college. By fostering digital literacy at an early age, the college is taking vital steps towards building a skilled, confident, and connected generation, ready to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving world.
