DLSA Budgam, JJB Budgam organize Awareness program on Rights of Under Trial Prisoners

BUDGAM, NOVEMBER 19: In a significant move, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Budgam in collaboration with Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) organized an awareness programme on Rights of Under Trial Prisoners at Juvenile Justice Board Budgam.

The programme was organized under the aegis of J&K Legal services Authority and under the guidance of O.P Baghat, Chairman DLSA (Pr.& Distt. Judge) Budgam and under the supervision of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Budgam and Shabber Ayaz, Principal Magistrate Juvenile Justice Board Budgam.

Secretary DLSA Budgam presided over the function. In her presidential address, she briefed the audience about the role of the District Legal Services Authority in rendering the services for the under trial prisoners.

She urged the collaborative partners including Child Welfare Committees and Child helpline to raise awareness about the free and competent Legal aid meant for the under trial Prisoners and other marginalized sections of society. She also apprised the audience about the Legal role and functions of defense Counsels scheme (LADCs).

Speaking on the occasion, Mehwish Tabbasum (LCPU JJB) Budgam gave brief introduction about the programme. Advocate Raja Faisal Zahoor, while deliberating on the topic, briefed the audience about rights of under trial prisoners, which includes fair and speedy trial. In his speech he also threw light on the core issues faced by UTPs.
Sandeep Kour member Child Welfare Committee hailed the District Legal Services Authority and its collaborative partners for organizing such programmes for the welfare of people.

The programme witnessed the active participation of staff of Child Welfare Committee, Juvenile Justice Board Budgam, members of Child Helpline Budgam and Staff and PLVs (Adhikar Mitras) of DLSA Budgam.
