Srinagar, Dec 13 : The centre government’s Mission Vatsalya Scheme has supported a total of 181 Child Care Institutions and 2,500 children under its institutional care over the past four years in Jammu and Kashmir.

The scheme aims to provide better care and support for children in need of institutional care, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Savitri Thakur, said in a written reply.

“Year-wise, the number of child care institutions supported under the scheme has increased from 16 in 2021-22 to 39 in 2022-23, 55 in 2023-24, and 71 in 2024,” the reply reads, as per the news agency.

Similarly, she said that the number of children supported under institutional care has grown from 579 in 2021-22 to 817 in 2022-23, and 1,104 in 2023-24.

“The government implements the centrally sponsored scheme ‘Mission Vatsalya’ in collaboration with State and Union Territory Governments. This scheme, funded on a pre-defined cost-sharing basis, provides both institutional and non-institutional care services to CNCP and CCL, focusing on their rehabilitation and reintegration into society,” she said

Child Care Institutions established under the scheme offer essential services such as age-appropriate education, vocational training, and recreational activities to support the holistic development of these children, the reply reads
