Srinagar, Jan 09 : Asserting that the Omar Abdullah led government is not here to fight with New Delhi, National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Thursday said that his Chief Minister son is the representative of people and he is working according to their aspirations.

Talking to the reporters here, senior Abdullah, according to the news agency said, “We have to work jointly with Delhi to end the sufferings of our people.”

Reacting to the statement of the party’s Member of Parliament (MP) from Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency, Aga Ruhullah Mehdi, that Omar Abdullah risks being seen by Kashmiris as “Delhi’s representative,” Dr Farooq said, “Those who want to fight with New Delhi can proceed. Omar is the people’s representative and he is not dancing to the tunes of anyone.”

“Those who are thinking so should come out of this misconception,” he said, adding, “We are not going to fight with Delhi.”

The NC president said, “How can the issues of people be resolved amidst the rise in unemployment and worsening conditions of hospitals and schools? We are neither from BJP nor have any links with them. But the central and state governments have to work together. It’s the duty of the Centre to provide all possible support to the states.”

About the dual power setup in J&K, he said that it will come to an end once the statehood is restored. Furthermore, senior Abdullah said that the INDI Alliance was not meant for the parliamentary polls but is aimed at strengthening the country. “The alliance was formed to strengthen the country and remove the hatred as well,” he said.

About the Tirupati stampede incident, the NC president stated that such incidents need to be prevented by taking necessary measures. “Maha Kumbh Mela is being organized after 12 years, there is a need to take adequate measures to ensure that incidents like Tirupati are not repeated there.”
