Eradication of unemployment has always remained a war cry for the political parties during the elections, but as soon as they assume the charge, the figures instead of declining are witnessing an increase, thus putting a question mark over the claims of the successive regimes with regard to the employment issue.
The contrary statements and figures about the unemployment rate during the present dispensation’s rule in the centre is also putting a question mark over the recent claims made by the Prime Minister in Rajya Sabha, wherein PM mentioned the enrolment of 1.2 crore new members with Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) during 2021, which include 65 lakh members belonging to the 18-25 age group.
The enrolment of 1.2 crore new members with EPFO in just one year is an achievement, but when one looks at the mounting rate of unemployment, it paints a grim picture over the measures of the government, being taken to decline the figure.
In the end of last year—2021, a total of 53 million people across the country were unemployed as per the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy, which indicates the rise of unemployment rate and also puts a question mark over the claims about providing employment to the people in different sectors.
The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy has pegged the country’s unemployment rate at 38 per cent during the ongoing pandemic.
Moreover, the questions being raised over the eight lakh vacant posts in the central government, needs to be answered as besides working for declining the present unemployment rate, the vacant posts too need to be filled, which can help in reducing the unemployment rate as well.
Therefore, as the reports suggest that a large number of people are unemployed at present, there is a need to come out of the imagination and work for the betterment of the unemployed people so that they are able to earn for their families.
The unemployment is not only pushing the unemployed people to the wall, but is adding to the misery of thousands of families as well, who are heading towards starvation. Thus, the government needs to speed up its process and ensure that more and more educated but unemployed youth are given a chance to serve the people and the swelling number is reduced further.
