DODA, APRIL 28: In a significant step towards promoting menstrual health and eradicating period poverty, Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women (Sankalp HEW), Doda, organized an awareness camp on menstrual hygiene management here at a local Madrasa under the banner of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.
During the session, Gender Specialist Humera Balwan sensitized adolescent girls about the importance of maintaining proper menstrual hygiene, addressing common health issues associated with menstruation, and debunking prevailing myths. She emphasized the crucial role of good nutrition during periods, recommending the intake of iron supplements and a balanced diet to prevent anemia and other menstrual-related health concerns.
As part of the initiative to eliminate period poverty, Sankalp HEW distributed sanitary napkins to the girls, ensuring access to basic hygiene products that many often find difficult to afford. The distribution was coupled with detailed guidance on the correct usage and disposal of sanitary products, fostering a sense of dignity, health, and confidence among young girls.
Sankalp HEW’s efforts are instrumental in strengthening the implementation of the BBBP scheme at the grassroots level. Through targeted awareness campaigns, practical support, and active engagement with communities, the organization is working relentlessly to empower girls, improve their health outcomes, and break the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation.
By directly addressing menstrual health management, Sankalp HEW is not only contributing to improved school attendance among girls but also paving the way for their holistic development, ensuring that no girl is held back due to lack of access to basic menstrual hygiene facilities.
The camp concluded with an interactive session where girls shared their queries and experiences, creating a supportive environment to discuss menstrual health openly — a strong step towards a future where every girl has the knowledge, resources, and freedom to manage her periods safely and with dignity.
