ANANTNAG, MAY 31: As part of the ongoing efforts to create a drug-free society, an extensive Information, Education and Communication (IEC) programme was conducted today across various educational institutions in Anantnag under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan.

The initiative is a vital component of the district’s comprehensive strategy to combat the growing menace of substance abuse, particularly among the youth.

Programme saw enthusiastic participation from students, teachers, and members of the wider community.
A series of awareness-building activities were organized including interactive sessions, rallies, essay writing and debate competitions, and pledge-taking ceremonies. These events were held in multiple institutions including HS Telwani, Hanfiya School Achabal, Saint Xains International School, HS. Kharpora, HS. Hanfiya Noor-ul-Azis, HS. Poshkeeri, HS. Panzeth, HS. Isoo, Boys HS. Hardu Kethel, HS.Dandipora and HS.Sadiwari.

The objective of the campaign is not only to educate students about the devastating impact of drug abuse on physical, mental, and social well-being but also to empower them to become ambassadors of change within their families and communities.

Special sessions were conducted by experts from the Health department, Social Welfare department, and District Police, who provided valuable insights into the challenges posed by substance addiction. These sessions were further enriched with real-life testimonials and case studies that highlighted the grave consequences of drug abuse.

District administration emphasized the critical role of community participation in sustaining the momentum of the campaign. Schools and colleges were encouraged to form Anti-Drug Committees and Peer Support Groups to provide continued engagement and early intervention mechanisms for students in distress.

Under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, more awareness activities are scheduled in the coming weeks, with designated focus days planned to maintain consistent public outreach and mobilization.
