KUPWARA, OCTOBER 27: The District Treasury Office, Kupwara, in collaboration with the District Administration, Kupwara, today organised a Joint Workshop-cum-Pension Adalat at the Auditorium of Boys Higher Secondary School (BHSS), Kupwara, to facilitate the speedy redressal of pending pension cases and grievances of pensioners and family pensioners.
The workshop was inaugurated by Principal Accountant General, Jammu and Kashmir, Jay Prakash Narayan Singh, in the presence of senior officers from the Office of the Principal Accountant General, J&K, Drawing and Disbursing Officers (DDOs), Treasury Officers, dealing assistants and a large number of pensioners from across the district.
At the outset, District Treasury Officer, Kupwara, Mohammad Shafi Wani, briefed the chair on the district’s treasury profile and the composition and functioning of treasuries across the district. He highlighted the importance of coordination among the Treasury Department, DDOs and other concerned departments in ensuring the smooth processing of pension cases and efficient delivery of treasury-related services.
Addressing the participants, the Principal Accountant General emphasised the need for Treasury Officers to intensify efforts to create greater awareness among stakeholders, including DDOs, pensioners and departmental functionaries, about prescribed procedures and requirements for the timely and accurate preparation and compilation of accounts.
He underscored the crucial role of the Treasury and Accounts Department in the preparation and compilation of the accounts of the Union Territory Government. He stated that accurate and timely government accounts reflect the administration’s financial position and serve as an important instrument for informed decision-making, financial accountability and maintaining public trust in governance.
Regarding pension-related grievances, the Principal Accountant General stressed the need for a pensioner-friendly approach and called upon the concerned Treasury and Accounts Officers to provide proper guidance and assistance to pensioners in completing the requisite forms and documentation. He also emphasised the need to organise dedicated awareness sessions to familiarise pensioners with the procedures for processing pension and family pension cases, thereby minimising procedural delays and facilitating the timely settlement of their claims.
He urged all participants to make optimum use of the workshop and benefit from the guidance and assistance provided by the concerned officers. He also stressed effective coordination among all stakeholders to ensure transparent, efficient and hassle-free delivery of pension-related services.
As part of the programme, a dedicated session for DDOs was conducted to familiarise participants with the relevant procedures, documentation requirements and other procedural aspects associated with the preparation and processing of government accounts and pension cases.
A separate session was organised for pensioners and family pensioners, providing them an opportunity to present their grievances directly before the concerned officers. Various issues raised by the pensioners were examined, and several grievances were redressed on the spot. The concerned officers also provided guidance on the requisite documentation and further procedures wherever necessary.
The Joint Workshop-cum-Pension Adalat provided a platform for direct interaction between pensioners and the concerned authorities, facilitating a better understanding of procedural requirements and the resolution of pension-related issues.
The initiative reaffirmed the commitment of the District Treasury Office, Kupwara, and the District Administration, Kupwara, to strengthening interdepartmental coordination, improving service delivery and ensuring the timely and effective redressal of grievances of pensioners and family pensioners.
