SAMBA, JULY 1: In a determined stride towards eradicating the scourge of drug abuse, Deputy Commissioner Samba, Rajesh Sharma chaired the monthly Narcotics Coordination (NCORD) meeting at the DC Office, Samba.

The meeting, attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Singh district and sectoral officers, reflected the administration’s unwavering resolve to adopt a comprehensive, interdepartmental approach to dismantle the drug menace plaguing the region.

DC Sharma emphasized that a synergized and sustained campaign is the only way to neutralize the intricate networks that sustain drug trafficking. He stressed the importance of ensuring that every stakeholder contributes actively, stating that the war against narcotics demands not only enforcement but also education, engagement and empathy.

He directed that all resolutions adopted in the meeting must be executed in letter and spirit, with zero tolerance for laxity.

Discussions revolved around bolstering surveillance mechanisms, particularly in vulnerable zones, and ensuring rigorous regulatory control over the sale of syringes and restricted pharmaceutical substances. The Health and Drug Control Departments were instructed to carry out regular inspections and penalize violations without delay.

Police authorities presented a detailed account of recent crackdowns and shared plans for scaling up operations to target hotspots of drug peddling.

The DC placed strong emphasis on community outreach as a preventive tool, calling upon departments to scale up awareness campaigns, especially among students, daily wagers and at-risk youth.

He urged officials to collaborate with educational institutions, NGOs, and local influencers to design engaging sports, cultural and counselling programs that promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

Contributions from law enforcement agencies and representatives from the higher education sector provided critical insight, enriching the district’s roadmap for a more targeted and impactful campaign.
