SRINAGAR, JULY 11: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Srinagar, observed World Population Day on Friday, by organizing a series of legal awareness programmes to highlight the issues arising from overpopulation and to educate the public about their legal rights and entitlements.

The event was held under the chairmanship of Tasleem Arief, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, and was conducted under the supervision of Sajad Ur Rehman, Sub-Judge/Secretary, DLSA Srinagar.

As part of the observance, awareness programmes were conducted in slum areas of district Srinagar and at Legal Literacy Club, Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Chanapora.

In GHSS Chanapora, the session was facilitated by Para Legal Volunteer, who served as resource person and engaged with students and staff on the theme of population issues, legal awareness, and rights education.

Simultaneously, in the slum areas, a special initiative was organized to support underprivileged families through the distribution of essential eatables and food items. The event aimed to raise awareness about population related issues while also addressing immediate nutritional needs of marginal communities which was led by Tasneem Kausar, Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel and Sunila Kumari (JLA) DLSA Srinagar.

The distribution drive was carried out with the help of NGO Justice Foundation.

The initiative reinforced DLSA Srinagar’s commitment to bringing legal literacy and rights-based awareness to the grassroots, especially among underprivileged and marginalized populations.
