The attack on humanity in Srinagar shook the consciousness of every individual across Jammu and Kashmir with netizens as well as the political class demanding stringent action against the three accused involved in the attack.
However, the gruesome attack has turned the victim lady blind as her cornea has suffered massive damage and the doctors are not of the opinion at present whether she can regain her eyesight.
At this juncture, the government has claimed that the medical treatment, legal aid and future rehabilitation of the Srinagar acid attack victim are covered under the Nirbhaya Fund.
Given the condition of her injury, further delay in proper and necessary treatment could certainly land the patient in trouble as according to medical science, the burn injury usually increases.
Reportedly, the girl is unlikely to regain her eyesight, but the government at this juncture should not dilly dally the things and ensure immediate super speciality treatment to the victim girl in outside prominent health care facilities as in case the burn injuries or infection extends further, there is every possibility of keratoplasty (Cornea transplant).
The crucial time of taking a measure for better treatment to the victim lady is must rather than announcing or providing monetary help to the family for treatment.
For sometime till the patient’s recovery, there is a need to stress on the better treatment and health care to the victim lady only while the other things and measures could wait.
The government seems in a hurry to announce the monetary help to stay at bay, but it is the time when the responsibility has to be taken and the super speciality treatment is ensured to the victim girl so that she would be able to regain her eyesight.
As she has survived the acid attack, the society with the government as a key player to play a pivotal role has to ensure her better survival with better healthcare.
