JAMMU, NOVEMBER 29: An impressive function was organized today in the premises of Directorate of Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare, Krishi Bhawan, Talab Tillo to pay homage to Shri Bawa Jitto (Baba Jit Mal Dev Ji Maharaj) — a legendary saint-farmer who made the supreme sacrifice nearly 650 years ago in the fight for farmers’ rights and justice.
The Department of Agriculture Jammu paid rich tributes to this epitome of courage, honouring his stand against exploitation and suppression by landlords of that era.
The programme was jointly organized by the All J&K Agriculture Employees Association, Drivers Union, and staff of the Directorate of Agriculture, as part of the annual tradition observed after the Jhiri Mela.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Agriculture Production & Farmers’ Welfare Jammu, Anil Gupta, said that Bawa Jitto’s life continues to be a beacon of inspiration for all. He urged everyone to follow his ideals and contribute selflessly towards the upliftment of the farming community. He recalled the historic sacrifice of the revered saint-farmer, which remains a symbol of justice and dignity for agricultural workers.
Joint Director Agriculture (Extension), Sanjay Anand, highlighted Bawa Jitto’s message of honesty, dedication and standing firm against injustice should guide the departmental workforce in their service to the farmers. He stated that the best tribute to Baba Jitto would be to ensure timely delivery of schemes, services and support to the farming community across the region.
Joint Director Agriculture (Inputs), Dr. Ashwani Sharma, also shared his thoughts, emphasizing that the values embodied by Bawa Jitto resonate strongly with the department’s mission of empowering farmers through technology, innovation and transparency.
Senior officers of the Directorate of Agriculture, members of the Drivers Union and staff of the department participated in the solemn programme.
A special adoration and worship ceremony were performed, followed by the distribution of Prasad and Bhandara, marking the conclusion of the event with devotion and community spirit.
