JAMMU, OCTOBER 23: The Directorate of Agriculture Production and Farmers’ Welfare Jammu organized a one-day Divisional Level Training and Demonstration for Master Trainers here today at Baba Jitto Kisan Kendra Jammu. The training was imparted to staff ahead of rolling out of SATHI Phase 2. The comprehensive training session was attended by 60 Master Trainers from the Agriculture Department, seed-producing agencies and seed dealers.

The event featured expert-led hands-on training by resource persons from the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and the Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Department, Government of India, New Delhi.

Joint Director Agriculture (Extension) Jammu Satish Kumar Sharma started the session by underscoring the importance of SATHI Phase 2. He emphasized that this initiative will position the Directorate of Agriculture Production and Farmers’ Welfare, Jammu, among the leading agencies in India to fully implement the SATHI Portal.

“The successful rollout of this project, initiated by the Government of India, will facilitate the distribution of high-quality seeds to our farmers and stakeholders,” said the Joint Director. “Moreover, it will enable the department to assess seed availability and pinpoint areas of scarcity or surplus, thereby enhancing the efficiency of the seed distribution chain across Jammu. This initiative is crucial for streamlining the agricultural supply system and ultimately boosting productivity.”

The SATHI Portal (Seed Traceability, Authentication, and Holistic Inventory), launched by the Government of India, aims to enhance transparency and accountability within the seed distribution system. Accessible via seedtrace.gov.in, the portal is designed to ensure online certification and distribution of high-quality seeds while creating a comprehensive seed inventory. By providing real-time access to seed data and traceability, the portal aims to improve the seed supply chain.

The Directorate of Agriculture Jammu has already successfully implemented Phase 1 of the SATHI Portal, achieving seed traceability authentication through online certification by the Divisional Seed Certification Agency, Jammu.

The training program featured notable contributions from Dinesh Chandra, Senior Director of IT and Sudeep Kumar, Application Support Engineer from NIC Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Government of India, New Delhi, Prem Singh DSCO Jammu along with Harbaksh Singh, Director of NIC Jammu. Participants included representatives from various seed-producing agencies, such as Seed Inspectors and Input Assistants, as well as officials from SKUAST, Jammu, the National Seed Corporation, and seed dealers from different districts.

Alok Pandotra, Deputy Director (Trainings), ensured logistical and IT support for the event, while Rajiv Katoch, Program Officer conducted the proceedings of the training session.
