Srinagar: Ashura, the martyrdom anniversary of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions, will be observed across Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday.
The day is observed as a mark of sacrifice and mourning, recalling the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), in the battle of Karbala on the 10th of Muharram.
Ashura processions are likely to be taken from Alamgari Bazar and Zadibal besides other places in Budgam and elsewhere. Such processions are likely to be held in Hanjivera Pattan, Mirgund and some other areas of Baramulla district.
Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha remembered the sacrifice of the martyrs of Karbala and in his message said that martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions has guided the humanity to strive for justice, values and righteousness.
The Lt Governor prayed for peace and prosperity in J&K, and urged the people to be kind, compassionate and work for the needy and underprivileged.

In his message, Dr. Farooq said, “On Ashura, which marks the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Aaali Mukam (AS), I urge the younger generation to learn from the incomparable qualities that were in the personality of Hazrat Imam Hussain (AS). The grand-son of Prophet of Islam (PBUH), Hazrat Imam Husain (AS) sacrificed his life, along with his family members and associates for the sake of the cardinal principles laid down by Holy messenger of Islam (PBUH),” adding, “The martyrs of Karbala will be remembered till eternity for their fight against injustice, oppression.”
Omar in his message said, “The supreme sacrifice rendered by Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions at Karbala would continue to remind mankind about the futility of falsehood and deceit and ultimate victory of truth and righteousness. I hope and pray that the day inspires us to take the path of devotion and commitment to the cause of truth despite manifest difficulties and hardships.” (GNS)
