Pulwama, Jun 08 : An elderly and ailing father made a strenuous journey to meet with the Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain during a public redressal programme in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Saturday. He had come to request the transfer of his son, a policeman currently stationed outside the Kashmir Valley.

Abdul Rashid Mir, in his 80s and a resident of the Jamnagari area of Shopian, had to be assisted by two individuals to reach the public Darbar at District Police Lines (DPL) Pulwama. Despite his frail health and multiple strokes that have left him mostly bedridden for the past six years, he persevered to secure a transfer for his son, Subzar Ahmad Mir, who has been posted outside Kashmir for the last four years.

Those accompanying Abdul Rashid informed the news agency that Subzar’s long absence has significantly impacted the family’s ability to care for the ailing father.

Subzar has a wife, two children, and an elderly mother at home, who struggles to manage Rashid’s care, especially during the night when his condition often worsens.

Mir’s demanding job and the considerable distance from his post have prevented him from visiting home frequently. Abdul Rashid, whose health continues to decline, expressed the emotional and physical toll of his son’s prolonged absence.

During the meeting with DGP, Rashid presented a formal request detailing his medical condition and the dire need for his son’s presence to provide care and manage household responsibilities.

“DGP Sahab assured us that our request would be taken seriously and said the police understand the gravity of such challenging situations. He promised to review the case sympathetically,” the family said.

They expressed hope that Subzar would soon be posted in Shopian or a neighbouring district so that he fulfills his duties while being close enough to care for his ailing father.
