SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 30: The government is vigorously implementing the necessary remedial measures to restore the Slow Sand Filtration Plant (SSFP) at ward number 2, Ramban-Maitra Town, which has developed choking and resulted in reduced filtration capacity.
Minister for Jal Shakti, Javed Ahmed Rana, stated this while responding to a Calling Attention Notice moved by MLA Ramban, Arjun Singh Raju, MLA Ramban, regarding the shortage of clean drinking water in Batote and Ramban towns due to non-functioning of filtration plants and shortage of water tankers.
The Minister informed that necessary measures are being put in place and the water filtration plant is expected to be made functional shortly. He said that as an alternative and sustainable source of drinking water, drilling of a borewell has also been taken up, with the work presently in progress.
Regarding water supply to Batote Town, the Minister informed the House that the water supply there is presently being catered through a 5,000 GPH Rapid Sand Filtration Plant (RSFP) and another 15,000 GPH RSFP is under execution. He further said that the project is expected to be completed within the current financial year.
On the issue of shortage of water tankers in Ramban, the Minister informed that water supply in water-stressed areas is presently being supplemented through two hired water tankers, which are being deployed in Batote Town and Ramban-Maitra Town as per requirement.
He stated that, to strengthen the emergency water supply arrangements, procurement of two water tankers of 6,000-litre capacity each through State Motor Garages is presently under process.
