ANANTNAG, FEBRUARY 27: An awareness programme on the three newly introduced criminal laws viz. Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam was today held at Town Hall Achabal, Anantnag.

The programme, presided over by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Syeed Fakhrudin Hamid aimed to raise awareness about the three laws and to educate the people.

District and sectoral officers from administration including Assistant Commissioner Development Anantnag and Superintendent of Police (Operations) Anantnag were present on the occasion among others.

In his remarks, the DC noted that the new laws are justice-oriented and victim-centric. He said that in the new laws, priority is given to justice instead of punishment besides ensuring speedy trials and speedy justice. He also said that priority in the new laws is to tackle crimes against women and children.
Hamid further added that these laws have incorporated recent technological developments also.

The program included a series of presentations by legal experts who detailed the key aspects of the new criminal laws, including victim protection measures, reporting procedures, and the rights of the accused.

The event also featured a Q&A session, giving attendees the chance to engage directly with experts and gain a better understanding of the laws that directly affect them.

The public response to the awareness program was positive, with many expressing their appreciation for the opportunity to learn about the new legal changes. The participants also emphasized that such initiatives empower citizens with the knowledge to protect their rights.

Notably, more such outreach programs are proposed to be organised in various parts of the district in order to spread awareness related to the new laws.
