Srinagar, Oct 30 : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Wednesday announced the restoration of academic session up to 9th standard to November-December instead of March session.
With Education Minister Sakina Itoo, besides him, Omar as per news agency in a video message, said: “For a long time especially from the winter zones of Jammu and Kashmir divisions, the parents as well as students were demanding to restore the schedule of exams to November-December session instead of March.”
The Chief Minister said that today the education minister brought the proposal to cabinet to revert the academic session to November-December and the cabinet has accepted it. “Now, the schedule of the exams for all classes upto 9th standard will be held before the winter vacations,” he said.
Omar added, “However, in case of the students of 10th to 12th classes, we cannot restore the academic session this year but in the 2025, we will revert the schedule as per the old scheme and their exams will also be held before winter vacations.”
Earlier, speaking exclusively with the KNO, J&K’s education minister Sakina Itoo said that the academic session has been restored to November-December up to 9th standard.
“For now, we will restore the academic session back to November-December up to 9th standard. For students of 10th to 12th, academic sessions will be restored from next year,” she said.
In the meantime, Itoo on her microblogging site X said, “We are announcing a change of academic session back to November-December from this year for non-board classes i.e., upto class 9th, for Kashmir Province and Winter zones of Jammu Province. For higher classes, sessions would be restored from next year. I thank Hon’ble CM Jb @OmarAbdullah Sb for the prompt decision on the matter which was concerning students, teachers and parents.”
Earlier, in 2022, the authorities in Jammu and Kashmir said that Uniform Academic Calendar shall be followed from 2022-23 academic year
