ChattisinghPora, May 25 : Memories are still fresh for the people living in ChattisinghPora where 20 people were massacred in the year 2000, but casting ballots has continued to remain the first and foremost priority for the electorates as they believe exercising the franchise would end up their miseries and hardships.

According to the news agency the people mostly those belonging to Sikh community turned up at the polling stations for upholding the constitution, employment and also development as well.

A 36-year-old voter, Sadbir Singh Sodi stated that since he turned 18, he has never wasted his vote so far. “Though our demands for reservation in STs, inclusion of Punjabi language as official language have not been fulfilled so far, I believe voting is the only way to get our issues resolved,” Sodi said.

He added their demands for justice with regard to ChattisinghPora massacre has never been fulfilled, even such is the situation for them that the jobs for the Kashmiri migrants was provided to a particular community only and the Sikhs were excluded and ignored completely.

“My today’s vote is solely for employment. I believe this vote will help the youngsters to come out of the prevalent situation,” he said.

However, some of the voters in the area had different reasons to cast their ballots.

Advocate Paramjeet Singh, who serves as a Law Officer at Civil Secretariat, told KNO that unemployment was not the only reason for voting today.

“Upholding of the Constitution, development and other issues too are among the main reasons and the priority for voting today,” he said
