SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 24: With an aim to promote traffic discipline and sensitize the public about responsible road behaviour, a Road Enforcement and Awareness Activity was today organised on the historic M. A. Road outside the Government College of Education Srinagar premises.

The programme, organised by Nodal Principal, Kashmir Division Colleges and Principal of Government College of Education, IASE Srinagar in collaboration with Traffic Police Srinagar commenced with a message from the Nodal Principal, Prof. Seema Naz.

In her speech, Dr Seema highlighted the rising concern of road accidents and emphasized the crucial role of educational institutions in fostering public awareness and responsible citizenship. She underscored that awareness, combined with community participation, is essential for ensuring safer roads.

The objectives and operational backdrop of the programme were presented by the Convener of the Road Safety Club, Prof. Aijaz Ahmad Dar, who addressed participants from the college gate and emphasized the importance of experiential learning and community outreach in building a culture of road safety.

In a coordinated effort, students of the college actively engaged with commuters and provided on-the-spot counselling and mentoring regarding adherence to traffic rules, use of helmets and seat belts, pedestrian safety, and responsible driving practices.

The activity highlighted the proactive role of higher educational institutions in addressing social challenges through community engagement. It also provided students with meaningful exposure to civic responsibility and public service while reinforcing the message that road safety is a shared social commitment.

The programme concluded successfully with active participation from students, faculty, and traffic authorities, marking an important step towards strengthening public awareness and promoting safer road practices in the community.
