ANANTNAG, APRIL 08: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Anantnag, Dr. Bilal Mohiud Din Bhat today chaired a meeting with principals of degree colleges and higher secondary schools of the district at Dak Bungalow, Khanabal.
ADC, Principals of GDCs, CEO, HoIs of HSSs, their representatives and other officials attended the meeting.

Addressing the meeting, the DC emphasized that teaching faculty must stay updated with new technologies and innovations, implementing modern methodologies in practical classroom teaching. He highlighted that the education system must be student-centric, urging teachers to be friendly with students to foster their emotional, psychological and overall development. The educators should strive to inculcate social, moral and scientific values along with positive attitude towards society and national building among the students, allowing them to grow into responsible citizens, he stressed.

Emphasizing the welfare and development of each and every student, the DC said it is the responsibility of the Principals and Teachers to ensure all students are provided positive and favorable environment in the educational institutions.

Dr. Bilal further highlighted the need for teachers to interact closely with students to understand their emotions and needs so they feel the presence of a responsive and supportive system at the educational institutions.

He said the lecturers and professors should work in their full capacities to ensure the teaching-learning process is conducive and result-oriented. The educators should focus on enhancing the skill set of students, engaging them in sports and co curricular activities besides imparting them requisite training in time with modern day demands, he remarked.

Showing concern on the weakening social and parental bonds, the DC noted that loose emotional ties between parents and children and among family members, lead to shortcomings in child development and social maladjustment. It is thus a collective responsibility of the parents as well as the educational institutions to work on the shortcomings so that holistic human development of students and youth is achieved.

Additionally, the DC called for strict implementation of drug detection processes in every institution, adhering to the prescribed schedules in letter and spirit. He cautioned about the individual, social and financial consequences of drug abuse, and called for sustained awareness against this menace, in the educational institutions. He further advocated for a scientific and compassionate approach to deal with the drug abuse victims, so they do not feel stigmatized.

During the meeting, the Principals and HoIs put forth their valuable suggestions regarding the modernistic approach on education and the measures being taken to train and motivate students about employable skill sets and job oriented traits. They also briefed the chair about the sports and co-curricular activities besides awareness campaign against drug abuse being conducted in their institutions.
