BARAMULLA, JANUARY 20: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Baramulla, Minga Sherpa today chaired a meeting of the District Level Coordination Committee (DLCC) under the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) to review the implementation of the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) in the district.

The meeting threadbare discussed effective measures to strengthen tobacco control initiatives in the district.
During the meeting, the DC emphasized the importance of enforcing COTPA regulations to ensure a tobacco-free environment. Key directives included regular inspections by enforcement teams near educational institutions, especially within a 100-meter radius, and ensuring that all public offices display ‘No Smoking’ signage and remain smoke-free.

The DC also outlined plans for weekly drives in public spaces to promote awareness and prevent tobacco consumption. Awareness campaigns will be conducted during school assemblies to inform students about the harmful effects of tobacco and the provisions of COTPA.

The meeting concluded with a commitment from all stakeholders to collaborate and intensify efforts towards creating a healthier, tobacco-free Baramulla. The District Administration aims to continue monitoring and ensuring strict adherence to tobacco control laws for the well-being of the community.
