DC Budgam reviews progress on demarcation of Hokersar Wetland

BUDGAM, JULY 09: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Budgam, Athar Aamir Khan today chaired a meeting to review the progress of the ongoing demarcation of Hokersar Wetland, a designated Ramsar Site.

The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) Budgam, Afroza Bano; SDM (West) Srinagar, Irfan Bahadur; Divisional Forest Officer, DFO Wild life, Mohd Altaf, Photo Interpretation Division J&K, Divisional Forest Officer, Settlement & Demarcation Srinagar, Range Officer Hokersar, Tehsildar Budgam, Naib Tehsildar, Regional Director, Survey & Land Records Srinagar, Settlement Assistant, Regional Director Survey & Land Records Srinagar, besides other concerned officers.

During the meeting, the DC took detailed review of the progress achieved in the demarcation process.
He assessed the status of field verification, boundary assessment, geo-referenced mapping, and the availability of relevant revenue and survey records required for the exercise.

The DC said that scientific and accurate demarcation is imperative for its long-term conservation and protection. He stressed that the exercise should be carried out with precision and in accordance with the prescribed norms.

The DC underscored the importance of close coordination among the Revenue, Forest and Survey & Land Records departments to ensure smooth execution of the demarcation process.

The DC Stresses on time bound completion of the demarcation process, submit regular progress reports, and ensure completion of the demarcation exercise within the stipulated timeframe.

The DC said that clear identification of the wetland boundaries is essential to prevent encroachments and strengthen conservation measures aimed at preserving the ecological integrity and biodiversity of the Ramsar Site.
