KATHUA, MAY 06: A meeting of the District Road Safety Committee was today held under the Chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr. Rakesh Minhas here at the DC Office Complex.

The meeting was attended by Executive Engineers of PWD (R&B) Kathua, Basohli, Billawar and Hiranagar, representatives from Degree Colleges, BRO, Police, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and other concerned departments.

Detailed discussions were held regarding the corrective and safety measures at vulnerable spots. Emphasis was also laid on ensuring smooth plying of transport near congested locations and enhancing commuter safety at critical points such as the Bus Stand and GMC Kathua.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the effective implementation of measures to make roads safer, to minimize mishaps, injuries and fatalities. He stated that the district administration has developed a workable plan to enhance the overall road safety scenario, which requires the active cooperation of all stakeholders.

The DC asked enforcement departments to encourage people to strictly follow traffic rules and contribute towards a smooth and congestion-free traffic environment. He directed the Executive Engineers of PWD (R&B) and PMGSY to ensure regular maintenance of roads to help prevent accidents.

Stressing the importance of public awareness, the DC called for mass sensitization regarding traffic safety rules.

He further instructed the stakeholder departments to take immediate steps to decongest city roads and facilitate smooth vehicle movement. Besides, he directed the MVA and traffic authorities to strictly enforce traffic laws and take stern action against violators.
