KUPWARA, AUGUST 28: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse today chaired the meeting of the District Level Committee under Narco Coordination (NCORD) to review various measures put in place to curb drug abuse in the district.

The meeting held a department-wise review of progress on enforcement, awareness, treatment, and rehabilitation. Officers presented updates against targets.

DC impressed upon all the officers to put in extra efforts aimed at eradicating the drug menace in the district. He also stressed to conduct special awareness camps for the vulnerable segments of the society viz. transport, street vendors and the youth.

He directed the tehsil level machinery to gear up for identification of hot spots with immediate destruction of wild bhung and poppy cultivation wherever reported and initiate legal action against the culprits.

It was informed that all the Medical shops have installed CCTV cameras with 95 percent Computerised Billing System. Asst. Drug Controller was directed to ensure 100 percent mandatory computerised billing as a means to break the supply chain.

Highlighting the responsibility of the parents in safeguarding the future of their children, DC emphasized for organizing monthly Parent-Teacher meetings in all govt and private schools mainly to discuss the menace apart from the other issues.

It was also impressed upon the participants to work for declaration of Nasha mukt panchayat for a healthy competition between the panchayats in making Kupwara a drug free district.
