POONCH, SEPTEMBER 29: Deputy Commissioner Poonch Ashok Kumar Sharma today chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) to review road safety measures and ongoing initiatives aimed at ensuring safer roads and protecting the public.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on various road safety issues, including road maintenance, pothole repairing, traffic management, removing illegal encroachments on roads, preventing overloading, unauthorised parking and other matters concerning public safety.
The Committee stressed upon all concerned agencies to ensure proper maintenance of roads and undertake immediate repairs of potholes and damaged stretches of roads, particularly in areas witnessing heavy movement, to minimise the risk of accidents.
The issue of unlicensed roadside vendors and encroachments in market areas was also discussed. The concerned Police authorities and Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) were directed to take necessary action against violations as per rules.
The Committee also reviewed the issue of overloading of passenger and commercial vehicles and called for strict enforcement measures against violators. The concerned authorities were further directed to take action against vehicles causing obstruction through illegal parking and ensure that roads and streets remain free from congestion.
The Deputy Commissioner further reviewed the progress of works related to road-safety and measures undertaken by various departments. He sought details of completed, ongoing and pending interventions, with emphasis on timely execution of works directly linked to public safety.
The meeting was attended by ADC Tahir Mustafa Malik; SE PWD (R&B) Arvind Langey; CMO Dr. Mohammad Pervaiz; Chief Education Officer Javid Iqbal Gulshan; Accounts Officer Akshay Sharma; CEO Municipality Khalil Ahmed Banday; ARTO Nawaz Sharief, Executive Engineers, DTI, senior officers and representatives from GREF and other concerned departments. Retired Superintending Engineer Niaz Ahmed Bandey also attended the meeting as Special Invitee.
The District Road Safety Committee called for close coordination among all concerned departments, along with regular enforcement and monitoring to ensure effective implementation of road safety measures and reduce risks to the public.
