RAMBAN, JULY 30: Deputy Commissioner Ramban Mohammad Alyas Khan, who is also Chairman of both, the District Road Safety Committee (DRSC) and the District Level Monitoring Committee (DLMC), today chaired a meeting to review road safety measures and corrective interventions to prevent road accidents.

Detailed discussions were held on the report of the Road Safety Audit Committee, focusing on the identification of accident-prone locations, road engineering deficiencies, safety measures and corrective interventions required to minimize road accidents.

The Deputy Commissioner directed all departments concerned to take time-bound remedial measures, with special emphasis on the committee’s road safety recommendations and asked R&B, PMGSY, NHAI and other agencies to execute road safety works on priority. He called for focussed technological, engineering and enforcement interventions to reduce accidents, particularly along NH-44 and other vulnerable stretches and emphasised the use of traffic and transport data for targetted interventions, strategic deployment of traffic personnel and timely corrective measures at identified black spots.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ramban Arun Gupta suggested installation of speed guns, crash barriers, rumble strips, milestones and speed-limit signage at black spots and vulnerable locations along NH-44 and other roads and stressed strict enforcement of traffic regulations and continuous monitoring of vulnerable stretches. SSP Traffic NHW Raja Adil Hamid highlighted road safety and enforcement concerns along NH-44 and suggested measures to improve traffic management and commuter safety.

The meeting also reviewed implementation of the Road Accident Victim Fund. The Deputy Commissioner stressed swift disposal of cases and timely assistance to eligible victims, directing that no case remain pending unnecessarily.

The DC also disbursed ₹8.70 lakh under the J&K Road Accident Victim Fund: ₹1 lakh each to the legal heirs of seven deceased victims, totalling ₹7 lakh; ₹50,000 each to three grievously injured victims and ₹10,000 each to two minor injured victims.

Among those present were Additional SSP Mujheeb-Ur-Rehman, Chief Planning Officer Dr Shakeeb Ahmed Rather, Project Director NHAI Shubam Yadav, ARTO Ramban Varun Bhasin, CEO Ramban, CMO Ramban and Executive Engineers of PWD and PMGSY besides other officers concerned.
