REASI, JUNE 21: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Nidhi Malik chaired a comprehensive review meeting today to finalize arrangements for the annual Kousar Nag Yatra. The meeting aimed to ensure a safe, smooth and well-organized pilgrimage for the devotees. The Kousar Nag Yatra is an annual 4 day yatra that commences from the District Reasi.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the need for meticulous planning and stressed the importance of close coordination among all departments to facilitate a seamless experience for the pilgrims. She highlighted the necessity of robust security measures and comprehensive medical services for the well-being of the pilgrims. The discussions also covered crucial logistical arrangements, including transportation, accommodation, sanitation and medical support.

DC Nidhi Malik conducted a thorough review of security plan in collaboration with senior officials from the Police, Army and CRPF. She underscored that the security of the pilgrims is of paramount importance and urged the security agencies to maintain close coordination.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) was directed to ensure the availability of sufficient medicines, along with deployment of doctors and paramedical staff along the route.

To ensure basic amenities, DC Reasi instructed the PDD and PHE departments to provide uninterrupted water supply and electricity, supported by gensets, throughout the Yatra route. The BDO Chassana, who also serves as the Yatra Officer was tasked with ensuring that the trekking path is fully prepared and equipped with necessary facilities.

The SDM Mahore was asked to proactively oversee the overall preparations of the Mela within the subdivision. Additionally, DC Malik directed PMGSY, PWD and GREF to ensure that roads, particularly in landslide-prone areas are repaired and safe for travel.

To maintain hygiene and comfort, the SDM and ACD Reasi were directed to ensure that an adequate number of functional washrooms especially for women are available along the route.

The DC also emphasised that security forces can assist tourists by installing ropes and steps along glaciers or snowy trails to ensure their safety. The Tourism Department was tasked with increasing awareness of the Yatra through appropriate publicity measures such as hoardings and banners.

DC Nidhi Malik also sought valuable suggestions from the President and members of the Kousar Nag Yatra Committee to further enhance the pilgrimage experience. She emphasized the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to ensure that the Yatra proceeds smoothly, allowing pilgrims to undertake their journey with peace and devotion.

The meeting was attended by ADC Rakesh Kumar, ASP Iftikhar, Tehsildar Reasi, CMO, DIO and other senior officers. SDM Mahore and other sectoral officers participated virtually.
