DH Bandipora to introduce Cancer Ward with Chemotherapy facilities

BANDIPORA, JANUARY 09: In a significant step towards improving healthcare services, the District Hospital (DH) Bandipora is set to introduce a ward with chemotherapy facilities to provide relief to cancer patients who otherwise have to travel long distances to tertiary care hospitals for treatment.

Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Bandipora, Dr. Masarat Iqbal, said that the ward will be managed by two physicians and two paramedical staff with specialized training in medical oncology. He added that the introduction of the cancer ward would mark a milestone in ensuring accessible and timely care for patients within the district.

Dr. Masarat urged patients to register themselves at the hospital and said that the registration process will allow them to prepare a detailed list of patients and understand the nature of cancers being treated. This data will enable the hospital administration to better manage resources and tailor services according to the needs of the patients.

He assured that the hospital would arrange medicines as much as possible and is already in touch with Ayushman Bharat authorities to seek additional support. “We are committed to ensure the sustainability of this initiative and collaboration with Ayushman Bharat will help provide financial assistance for patients requiring prolonged treatments,” he added.

Cancer treatment facilities within the district will reduce the burden on patients, especially those from remote areas like Gurez, Tulail, and other inaccessible areas. Currently, many patients have to travel to Srinagar or other urban centers, which is both time-consuming and financially draining.

Dr Masarat said the hospital is also exploring the possibility of establishing a counseling unit for patients and their families to address the emotional and psychological challenges associated with cancer besides Regular awareness drives and screening camps will also be organized to ensure early detection and timely treatment.
