DLSA Ganderbal holds Legal Literacy Camp at GBHSS Chattergul

GANDERBAL, APRIL 12: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Ganderbal, in collaboration with the Chief Education Office, Ganderbal, organised Legal Literacy Camp today, at Government Boys Higher Secondary School (GBHSS) Chattergul Kangan.

The camp aimed to educate children, women and their families on child protection laws like Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, informing communities about the role of Child Welfare Committees (CWCs) and Juvenile Justice Boards (JJBs) and providing information on accessing legal aid for children who are victims of abuse.

During the event, awareness was also raised on the rights of children in conflict with the law, ensuring fair and humane treatment as per the provisions of Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015 and to promote rehabilitation of children in conflict with the law.

The event was held under the leadership of Abdul Nasir, Chairman DLSA Ganderbal.

The program was attended by a diverse group of dignitaries and stakeholders, including, Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary DLSA Ganderbal; Oneel Kumar Bhat, Chief Education Officer Ganderbal; Aman Ashraf Wani, Principal, GBHSS Chattergul; faculty members of GBHSS Chattergul, officials from the Chief Education Office, Ganderbal, Assistant LADC Ganderbal, Chairperson Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Ganderbal, Legal Cum Probation Officer (LCPO), DCPU, Ganderbal, students of GBHSS Chattergul, etc.

Secretary DLSA Ganderbal in his presidential address highlighted the crucial aspects of child rights. He stressed the importance of education as a fundamental right and underscored its role in empowering children and supporting their development.

Principal GBHSS Chattergul emphasized that protecting children from abuse is a collective responsibility of teachers, parents and all stakeholders, highlighting the importance of a collaborative effort to ensure children’s safety and well-being.

Chairperson CWC Ganderbal, delivered an insightful address highlighting the pivotal role of CWCs in protecting children’s rights. She emphasized the specific rights of children in conflict with the law, underscoring the importance of fair treatment, care, and rehabilitation of children’s.

Legal cum Probation Officer, District Child Protection Unit (DCPU) and Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) Ganderbal, delivered an informative session highlighting the crucial role of JJBs in ensuring justice for children. She emphasized the key provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, and its significance in protecting children’s rights.

Students Saima Qayoom and Maliha Anjam from Government Higher Secondary School Chattergul actively participated in the event, delivering thoughtful speeches.

Arshida, a student of the school, presented a Ladisha, showcasing her talent and adding a cultural dimension to the event.

Secretary DLSA Ganderbal presented appreciation certificates to participants, acknowledging their participation and engagement.
