The meeting was chaired by Haq Nawaz Zargar, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (Principal District & Sessions Judge) Srinagar.

The meeting brought together officials from the judiciary, police, administration, and medical departments to discuss ways to ensure quick and fair trials for under trial prisoners.

The meeting was convened by Secretary DLSA Srinagar in compliance to the calendar of activities already issued by National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). The meeting was attended by Mir Imtiyaz-ul-Aziz, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar; Umer Shah, SP Headquarters Srinagar; Saba Shawl, Superintendent, Central jail, Srinagar; Javeid Ahmed, Deputy Director Prosecution, Srinagar; Ajaz Ahmad, Public Prosecutor, PD&SJ Court Srinagar and Dr. Suhail Jan, Senior Medical Officer, Central Jail Srinagar.

During the session, the committee reviewed three cases of under trial prisoners which were already identified by the office of DLSA Srinagar through Legal Defense Aid Counsels (LADCs).

Each case was discussed in detail to understand the situation of the individuals and to suggest steps for speeding up the legal process. The recommendations aimed at decongestion of the prisons by releasing the eligible prisoners under the categories already specified by NALSA.

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman DLSA stressed the importance of UTRC meetings in improving the justice system and protecting the rights of under trial prisoners (UTPs).
