The programme, held under the guidance of Jawad Ahmed, Chairman DLSA Srinagar (PDJ, Srinagar), focused on the subject “Women’s Role in Enhancing Senior Citizens’ Well-Being.” It aimed to highlight the vital contributions of women in promoting the wellbeing of senior citizens.

Naseema Lankar, the chief guest, shared her insightful experiences from visiting old age homes in countries like Japan and imparted valuable lessons learned. She emphasized the importance of compassion and support for the elderly, noting that a society is judged by how it treats its most vulnerable members, and women play a pivotal role in this regard. She also called for more community-driven initiatives to support senior citizens.

Dr. Sameena, Principal of Higher Secondary School Chanapora, delivered an engaging speech on the dual role of women in caring for senior citizens and nurturing the younger generation. She stressed the significance of instilling strong moral values and empathy in the youth to ensure a supportive society for the elderly.

Other speakers including Ruksana, Saika and Shokiya from Radio Kashmir provided their perspectives on the subject. Their discussions highlighted the community’s role in fostering a caring environment for senior citizens.
Sagufta, a poet, added a cultural dimension to the event by sharing her poetry books and reciting poems that resonated with the theme. Her literary contributions were well-received and underscored the power of art in raising awareness about social issues.

Dr. Laila Sultana provided additional insights and facilitated meaningful discussions. She also thanked the staff members and senior citizen members of Ahata Waqar for making the program a successful and impactful one.
Overall, the event underscored the essential role of women in promoting the wellbeing of senior citizens, highlighting that a collaborative effort is required to create a supportive and compassionate community for the elderly.
