BANDIPORA, APRIL 27: As part of the ongoing 100-Day Mission Mode campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, the District Administration Bandipora on Monday organized a ‘Dosti discussion’ at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Plan, Bandipora to raise awareness on drug abuse.

During the panel discussion, students highlighted that addiction often stems from stress, peer influence, and mindset, and noted that the most vulnerable age group is youth. They stressed that addicts should be counselled and rehabilitated rather than punished.

On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, appreciated students for sharing real-life perspectives and urged them to go beyond bookish knowledge. She noted that while awareness is being strengthened, strict enforcement against drug peddlers is also underway, with increasing public cooperation in reporting cases.

The DC outlined a three-pronged strategy focusing on outreach to vulnerable groups, breaking the supply chain, and addressing all forms of substance abuse, including misuse of everyday products and medicines. She emphasised that the problem lies not just in availability but in usage, often driven by stress and peer pressure.
Highlighting the role of society, the DC said the Government alone cannot tackle the issue and called upon all to start change from within and spread awareness in their families, particularly about the harmful effects of tobacco and passive smoking.

The Deputy Commissioner reiterated strict enforcement of laws including the NDPS Act and COTPA, and said strong action is being taken against offenders. She also encouraged citizens to share information with the administration, adding that valuable inputs are already being acted upon.

On the occasion, a pledge against substance abuse was administered by the Deputy Commissioner. She further signed on a “Pledge Tree,” reaffirming commitment towards a drug-free society, while students also reaffirmed their resolve to lead a purposeful drug-free life.

Earlier, the DC inspected the Nasha Mukt wall painting prepared by students and also led a plantation drive in the school premises.

The programme concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen collective efforts in eradicating drug abuse from society.

Among others, the event was attended by Chief Education Officer Bandipora, Dr G.M Pujoo; District Information Officer Bandipora, Aadil Manzoor Wani and other concerned officers and officials.
