Drug Trafficking: Destroy the Supply Chain!

Although law enforcement agencies, particularly the police, are constantly on the lookout and doing everything they can to eradicate the scourge of drug addiction in J&K, particularly narcotics trafficking, it appears to be a vicious problem plaguing our society for far too long. Despite almost daily actions, the overall impact has been minimal, with only sporadic changes to the supply chain. When it comes to breaking up the supply chain, the authorities appear to be doing little, allowing easy access to drugs, which underlines that with more young people in Kashmir becoming addicted to drugs, the efforts being made to address this issue remain flawed.

Drug trafficking has not only devastated numerous families, but it has also had a disastrous influence on Kashmir’s youth. It is vital to note that these drug dealers have no respect for the lives of the people they prey on; instead, they are solely concerned with making a quick profit and will do whatever it takes to do so. Furthermore, because women can easily slip through the security grid and maintain the drug supply chain, as was seen in a few cases earlier, they are becoming increasingly implicated in the supply of drugs throughout Kashmir, because the entire trade involves huge money and no concern for precious lives.

The current circumstance calls for a diversified strategy. We might not see the desired results if left to just the law enforcement agencies. There is no other option for saving the youth of J&K but destroying the drug trade’s foundations. At all costs, it needs to be done. In addition to severing this chain, it’s important to identify the source of the drugs, which is likely across the border but may also come from other places, as was recently demonstrated in Sopore when a drug distribution network that had been getting its supply from Punjab was busted. There is a critical need for coordinated action from all the parties involved, particularly the parents and the government, law enforcement, and civil society organisations.

Coming to the crucial and key point: The parents are without a doubt the first line of defence against the dangers of drug abuse, and they play a major role in the upbringing of their children. They must fulfil their obligations, pay attention to their kids, and allow them to develop in a safe and supportive atmosphere. They must be watchful and closely monitor their children’s actions. More importantly, they should refrain from placing undue pressure on their kids because doing so could unintentionally lead to frustration and, ultimately, drug abuse. Drug trafficking is a plague that needs to be eliminated and dealt with through a zero-tolerance approach. The authorities must adopt a harsh position against it and make sure they clamp down severely on drug dealers, destroy the supply chain, and bring them to justice.
