ANANTNAG, JULY 23: In a concerted effort to combat the menace of drug abuse, the Drugs Control Department and the Anantnag Police have launched a joint operation to curb the sale and misuse of prescription drugs within the district.

In this connection, a raid was conducted by the Drug Control officers and local police in Bijbehara, and a medical agency run by Shakeel Ahmad Ahanger at Veer Road Zirpara was found to be operating in violation of licensing norms and conditions. The agency was found to be in possession of invoices of habit-forming codeine formulations generated under the name of another medical agency.

A thorough investigation has been initiated to identify and apprehend those involved in the illicit supply chain of these habit forming drugs. Medicines worth lakhs of rupees have been seized from the said premises, and legal action is being taken against the accused under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

This joint operation underscores the commitment of the police and the Drugs Control Department to safeguarding the health and well-being of the community.

The authorities have assured the public of stringent measures to prevent the proliferation of drugs and to hold offenders accountable for their actions.
