SRINAGAR, MARCH 10: District Social Welfare Office (DSWO) Srinagar in collaboration with education department organized a series of Intergenerational Bonding Programmes across various educational institutions in the district under the ages of the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY).

The initiative aimed to strengthen the bond between the younger generation and senior citizens while fostering respect, empathy, and understanding towards the elderly.

The programmes were conducted in 15 educational institutions, where students actively interacted with senior citizens through engaging sessions, cultural activities, storytelling, and experience-sharing interactions. The initiative provided a meaningful platform for young students to learn from the wisdom and life experiences of elders, while also ensuring that senior citizens felt valued, respected, and socially connected.

Officials from the District Social Welfare Office Srinagar highlighted that such intergenerational interactions play a crucial role in bridging the generation gap, promoting social harmony, and reinforcing the importance of care and dignity for senior citizens. Students were encouraged to recognize the invaluable role of elders in shaping society and to uphold the values of compassion, gratitude, and respect.

The programme also created awareness about the welfare schemes and legal protections available for senior citizens, including the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007, emphasizing the responsibility of families and communities towards the well-being of the elderly.

The department urged educational institutions and community members to actively support such initiatives to build a more inclusive and compassionate society where the wisdom of elders and the energy of youth come together for social progress.
