The incompetent individuals come to understand that they own the system over time as they observe how it benefits them; they are prioritized over others, receive disproportionate benefits, and even the rules and regulations are changed to benefit such blue-eyed people. There is sufficient proof that a particular “professor” who didn’t even have a Master’s Degree in the field was given a PhD in computer sciences by KU. The KU has demonstrated how to live up to the adage that “rules are for fools” by changing the rules in a way that allowed the aforementioned person to be awarded a doctorate and then the subsequent favour and perks.
The young people toil day and night to obtain a PhD, and here we have a person who was and still is the favourite, who did not meet the requirements, but yet managed to obtain the degree; and then the subsequent appointment. The person in question was even given the responsibility of leading the IT Department, which is still under his control, so it didn’t end there. Young teachers who have worked hard and meritoriously are clamouring for the promotions they have earned, while others are treated unfairly only because they are powerful or privileged. This illustrates the demise of a key element that was once the foundation of an effective system.
And yet, the authorities are behaving like indifferent bystanders. Why isn’t anyone taking action if the records exist and don’t just blow the lid off of favours given to this specific person by the KU? The Government cannot even claim ignorance of the issue, thus one would stop by and inquire as to why neither the Government nor the KU acted to address the menace of favouritism. The questions are difficult and their answers are even more difficult, but those who are sitting in the high chairs must wake themselves up and take note of what has become of the University of Kashmir in the last decade or so. The blot must be washed off. A thorough probe must be ordered and action must be taken. Or we will tell ourselves that rules are indeed for fools.
