PULWAMA, JULY 14: Acting on a specific complaint, a team of Food Safety Officers of the Food & Drugs Administration (FDA), J&K, conducted an inspection of two paneer manufacturing units at Talangam, Pulwama.

During the inspection, serious violations of the sanitary and hygienic requirements prescribed under Schedule IV of the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011 were observed. The deficiencies included the use of non-food-grade plastic material, inadequate pest control measures, and absence of proper temperature-controlled storage facilities for perishable milk products.

Two samples of paneer were collected and sent to the NABL-accredited notified food laboratory for analysis of prescribed quality and safety parameters mandated under the Act.

Considering the serious food safety deficiencies and potential risk to public health, Prohibition Orders under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 were issued against both establishments, directing immediate cessation of manufacturing activities until all deficiencies are rectified and compliance with the prescribed food safety, sanitary and hygienic requirements under Schedule IV is ensured.

Consumers are encouraged to report any suspected food safety violations through the Toll-Free Helpline No. 104 or email at cfsjandk.fnd@jk.gov.in.
