Field Day organised for farmers at DARS SKUAST-K

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 23: A farmers’ Field Day focused on ‘Improved Technologies for Higher Pulse and Maize Production and Quality Seed production for Sustainable Crop Production’
was organized by SKUAST-K at Dryland Agriculture Research Station (DARS), Rangreth.

On the occasion, Dr. M. Ashraf Bhat, Associate Director Research, briefed the participants (farmers of three Zones and Agri. Officials of district Budgam) about latest technologies and practices for enhancing pulse and maize productivity in the region.

He impressed upon farmers to use SKUAST-K released varieties in cereal, pulse and forage crops to combat harmful effects of changing climatic scenario.

In his address, Dr. Bhat highlighted outreach activities and achievements of HADP Project No. 1 for strengthening Seed System in the region.

The programme also included a field visit, where farmers were given live demonstrations of improved crop varieties and scientific cultivation methods.

Dr. Ajaz A. Lone, Professor I/c, AICRP on Pulses also highlighted technological advancement of pulse cultivation in temperate Kashmir ecologies.

A large number of farmers attended the event and interacted with scientists, gaining practical insights on sustainable farming practices to improve productivity and profitability.

The event was organized in collaboration with Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Budgam and District Agriculture Office, Budgam and was sponsored by the Indian Institute of Pulses Research (IIPR), Kanpur and the Indian Institute of Maize Research (IIMR), Ludhiana.
