Kulgam: A foreigner among two Jaish-e-Mohammed militants were killed on Saturday in an ongoing encounter that erupted in Mirhama area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, officials said.

Officials told  news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that joint teams of army’s 9 RR, CRPF and J&K police laid a siege at Mirhama area after receiving a lead about the presence of militants in the area.

“When security forces zeroed in on the suspected area, the hiding militants opened fire at the forces triggering an encounter. In the initial exchange of fire, a foreigner (Pakistani) militant was killed later one more militant got killed.

They said that the operation got delayed due to the darkness and that the cordon layers have been tightened to ensure remaining militants “if any” aren’t able to flee. “The operation has not been called off,” they said.

Kashmiri police tweeted: “#KulgamEncounterUpdate: One #Pakistani #terrorist of proscribed #terror outfit JeM killed. #Operation in progress: IGP Kashmir @JmuKmrPolice.”—(KNO)
