GDC Vijaypur hosts Book Donation Drive and ‘Meet the Author’ Session under Sewa Parv

SAMBA, SEPTEMBER 30: To promote the spirit of giving and community service, Yuva Mission, Unnat Bharat & Shikshit Bharat clubs of Government Degree College (GDC) Vijaypur organized a Book Donation Drive as part of the ongoing “Sewa Parv”. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from both students and the faculty members.

Students and teachers generously contributed a wide range of books including academic texts, reference materials, novels and self-help books, which will be made available to underprivileged students and local libraries in need.

Meanwhile, the College hosted a literary event “Meet the Author”, to promote regional literature and encourage students’ engagement with authors and scholars.

The distinguished guest for the event was Dr. Manoj Heer.

Assistant Professor in the Department of Dogri, Dr. Manoj Heer is a renowned academician and literary figure of Dogri language and literature. Dr. Heer has significantly contributed to the promotion of Dogri through his extensive body of work which includes numerous books, research and news articles, journal publications etc.

He interacted with the students and provided valuable insights into his writing journey, the nuances of Dogri literature and the importance of preserving regional languages. His address was both enlightening and motivational, sparking curiosity and interest among students toward creative writing and literary pursuits.

The twin events were coordinated with the support of Prof. Anita Jamwal (Associate Professor, Dept. of Political Science), Prof. Mamta Gupta (Associate Professor, Dept. of Commerce), Prof. Ritu Bhagat (Associate Professor, Dept. of Education), Dr. Anoop Kumar Bhagat (Associate Professor, Dept. of Sociology), Dr. Arti Sharma (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Environmental Sciences), Prof Meetu Sharma (Assistant Professor, Dept. of Geography), Dr. Pooja Gupta,Lecturer(Dept. of Commerce), Dr. Gunjeet Mahiwal (Lecturer, Dept. of Education), Dr. Anoop Singh (Lecturer, Dept. of History), Prof. Sonia Devi (Lecturer, Dept. of Hindi).
