Srinagar, Dec 09: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have said that it has identified land for development of solar projects which will effectively generate power to the extent of ‘750 MW’.

According to the official documents available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), “J&K has already identified land for development of solar projects which will effectively generate power to the extent of 750 MW, requiring an investment of around Rs 4,000 Cr.”

“In addition, the potential for setting up floating solar projects is yet to be assessed,” it reads.

The official documents further reveal that “In view of the huge unexploited potential to develop generation projects through renewable resources, J&K, in the coming years, shall become a hub of investment opportunities for the developers and private players in the generation sector.”

Pertinently, KNO has reported that Jammu and Kashmir ranks at the second place for having higher potential to produce solar energy in India, documents reveal.

As per the document, Jammu and Kashmir has a potential to produce 111050 MW of solar energy.

Jammu and Kashmir is followed by Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, which as per the document has a potential to produce 64320, 61660, and 38440 MWs of solar energy.

Currently, Jammu and Kashmir has 27.25MW of installed capacity of solar power.

Principal Secretary Power Development Department (PDD) H Rajesh Prasad was not available for his comments over the issue—(KNO)
