Srinagar, Oct 29 : Under the influence of feeble Western Disturbance, the higher reaches of north Kashmir have received snowfall on Monday while the plains including Srinagar—the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir have received light rainfall, bringing down the mercury across the Valley.

The cloudy weather conditions prevailed since the morning today as the higher reaches were experiencing the snowfall under the influence of the weak Western Disturbance.

According to the news agency, the snowfall has occurred in higher areas of Bandipora—Kilshay Top in Gurez, Kupwara district, phase-2 in Gulmarg and a few areas of Pir Panjal range, situated in Baramulla district. The snowfall has also been recorded in Sinthan Top, Razdan Pass and higher reaches of Pahalgam today.

An Independent Weather Forecaster, Faizan Arif Keng has informed that the light snow was also reported from Zojila-Minamarg axis.

However, in the afternoon, the light snowfall was reported from Srinagar areas as well amidst the cloudy weather conditions.

With the light wet spell in Kashmir parts, the maximum temperatures have plummeted in Srinagar and elsewhere today.

As per the details, Srinagar has recorded a maximum temperature of 19.2 degree Celsius against yesterday’s 23.3 degree Celsius. Qazigund has, however, recorded the maximum temperature of 26.2 degree Celsius while Pahalgam recorded 17.8 degree Celsius.

Besides, Kupwara has recorded a day temperature of 18.3 degree Celsius while Kokernag and Gulmarg recorded 23.5 degree Celsius and 14.2 degree Celsius respectively.

Keng has also informed KNO that there is a forecast of improvement in the weather conditions from tonight or Wednesday morning onwards. “Thereafter, the dry weather is expected till 08 November,” he said.

Moreover, he stated that further fall in water of river Jhelum and other streams are expected amidst the dry weather conditions.

Furthermore, the Meteorological department (MeT) in its advisory has advised the farmers to continue harvesting, safe storage of harvested crops and other farm operations.

There is a possibility of mist and shallow fog over plains of Kashmir during morning hours from 1st November onwards,” it added.
