Srinagar, Apr 30 : The three-day wet-spell that led to the increase in the water level in all the water bodies here refreshed the memories of 2014 deluge when whole Kashmir got submerged, leading to loss of lives and huge damage to the properties as well.

Since the wee hours of this morning, the people across Kashmir started to gather around river shores to check the water level.

Discussions and whispers circulated in and around the valley as people kept talking about 2014 deluge and the haunting recollection then.

According to details available with the news agency, memories of the devastating 2014 floods resurfaced after water levels rose in the Kashmir valley, with the bustling shores of the Jhelum and Doodganda rivers once again becoming points of attraction for the residents.

The administration however, swiftly responded to the heightened activity near the rivers by issuing advisories, urging people to stay away from the vulnerable riverbanks.

Locals, who spoke to news agency, said, “In 2014, we witnessed the torment of nature firsthand. The floods spared no one, and the scars of that calamity still run deep,” remembered an old man while sitting on the bank of the River Jhelum at Rajbagh.

He added, it’s disheartening to see people flocking to the riverbanks without realizing the risks involved.

Another young man, Umer, who was in his 20’s, added, “The memories of the flood are still fresh in our minds. It’s crucial that we heed the warnings and take necessary precautions to ensure our safety,” said Umer.

Also, the district administration of Srinagar issued an advisory on Sunday in wake of the inclement weather conditions, asking people to refrain from venturing in and around the water bodies.

Moreover, as a precautionary measure, schools and the University of Kashmir were closed for today and major highways were closed despite the bad weather conditions.
