Fourteenth round of military commander level talks between India and China concluded yesterday without making any headway with regard to the border dispute between the two neighbors. Though the dialogue on Wednesday failed to yield any positive outcomes but both countries decide to work towards mutually acceptable solutions in resolving the Ladakh LAC stand-off. The next round is expected to be held soon to continue the momentum of discussions. The situation on the LAC worsened in May 2020, when in a unilateral move Chinese army came across and reportedly occupied one thousand square kilometers on this side of the border, inviting sharp criticism from the Indian side.
Experts believe that India’s decision of changing the constitutional position of Jammu and Kashmir has provided China an opportunity to work its own way in ladakh and ever since China has claimed many parts on this side of the LAC and have made several transgressions with one such incident resulting in the death of twenty Indian soldiers including a top ranking officer. Some of the experts believe that talks between India and China are not going to yield any results as China is not sincere in talks nor is it ready for disengagement as it has built large scale infrastructure in Pangong tso, Doklam, Daulatbeg and other areas. China is reportedly constructing a bridge on Pangong Tso for faster troop movement in the area.
China has deployed Robots with huge machine guns in many areas on the Line of Actual Control and many experts, who are critical of Indian Government’s policies with regard to china believe that China is preparing for a full fledged war with India and if steps to stop the Chinese aggression militarily are not taken, we may have a very tough time ahead on LAC. Yet another dimension of this scenario is that Pakistan and China are reportedly working on a joint operation and both the all weather friends have been conducting joint military drills. If news reports are to be believed, Pakistan has deployed a good number of its military commanders in its Chinese embassy to work in coordination with their Chinese counterparts. Given the situation on LAC and LOC, India has to have a military preparation for any kind of situation that may arise on its eastern borders anytime in the current year.
