Srinagar, Dec 11: On the occasion of International Mountain Day 2023, the Directorate of Tourism, Kashmir, organised an event at the Tourist Reception Centre here.
Secretary to the Government Department of Tourism and Culture, Dr Syed Abid Rashid, was the chief guest. He was accompanied by the Director of Tourism Kashmir, senior officials from the Department of Tourism, representatives of various travel trade organisations and adventurers from different clubs and associations.
As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the event focused on this year’s theme, “Restoring Mountain Ecosystems,” with multiple presentations emphasising the importance of sustainable and responsible tourism.
Participants discussed the need to preserve mountain ecosystems while promoting tourism that respects the environment.
In collaboration with SIDBI, two new projects were inaugurated during the event. The first project focuses on homestay entrepreneurship, aiming to enhance the local experience for tourists while supporting the livelihoods of the residents. The second project involves paragliding training.
To encourage exploration and adventure, maps for 30 new offbeat trekking routes were unveiled.
The event also featured the felicitation of associations and individuals who have shown exemplary achievements in the field of adventure tourism—(KNO)
